![]() Some are made as representations of people or cultures in a racist or classist attempts to other them and instigate fear, and potentially violence, against those deemed "unworthy". Others were made up to create boogiemen to scare people into preferred behavior, warning people (many of them children) that they will be eaten or kidnapped if they don't change their ways. Some are the result of ignorance of the world around those that invented them, constructed as a means to explain things that science at the time had no explanation for. The origin of culturally recognized monsters vary.
